Group committed to Boykins

To the Editor:

In December 2007, the Boykins Main Street Initiative (MSI) organization was formed. Currently we have approximately 50 members. This group has made a difference in trying to make our town attractive and has given support to our local government.

Recently, the MSI received a $25,000 planning grant commitment. The purpose of a business district revitalization planning grant is to develop an economic restructuring plan for the downtown that will attract private business investments and ensure the long-term sustainability of the community. This economic restructuring plan and applicable strategies must be addressed prior to shifting the focus to the physical condition of downtown.

I would like to thank the members of this organization and our planning grant administrator, Phyllis Bunch, for taking the time to support the group in order to receive this grant.

A lot of work must be done in the future, and a commitment of time will have to be made in order for our dreams to come true.

Our town has a lot to be proud of. We will be celebrating our 125-year anniversary in November. The MSI is committed to supporting all businesses in our town, whether on Main Street or not, and continues to attract new businesses to our town.

In a little more than a year, the Main Street program has made an impression in our town and will continue to do so. We need your continued support and also welcome new members. If interested, please call Mike McManus at 653-1818 or me at 650-8134.
