Curtis E. Newsome Sr.
WAKEFIELD—Curtis Edward Newsome Sr., 83, died Dec. 22, 2008.
Born Nov. 8, 1925, in Surry County, he was the son of the late Curtis A. Newsome and Myrtle Edwards Newsome.
Mr. Newsome drove a truck for Bracey & Johnson Oil Co. in Ivor and also for Beale Packing Co.
He was a member of Ivor Baptist Church and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Mary Ann Wells Newsome; two daughters, Mary Lou Cash and husband Lyle of Ivor and Judy Ulmer of Prince George; three sons, Harry S. Newsome and wife Lisa of Waverly, Curtis E. Newsome Jr. and wife Claudia of Ivor and Casper W. Newsome of Wakefield; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Alice Lee Gwaltney and Mildred May Newsome, both of Waverly; a brother, Pearly Logan Jr.; sister-in-law, Ada May Newsome of Ivor; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his brother, Clarence “Curly” Newsome.
A funeral will be held today at 1 p.m. in J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home, Wakefield Chapel.
Burial with military honors will be in Holly Lawn Cemetery in Suffolk.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on the day of the service from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
