William F. Jenkins Sr.
BENA—William Franklin Jenkins Sr., 90, died Dec. 17, 2008.
Mr. Jenkins was born in Gloucester County to the late Thomas Martin and Grace Thomas Jenkins. He retired from Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Co. after more than 40 years of service.
After his retirement from the shipyard, he was not content to be idle or waste time, so he founded and operated Jay Refrigeration, Inc., for 24 years.
He was a faithful member of his church, Bethlehem United Methodist Church. He was hard working, believed in showing respect and was loyal to his family and friends. William was the intellect of wisdom, the voice of reason, and he led his family in straight and good paths.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Charlotte Weaver; and his beloved wife, Hilda B. Jenkins.
Survivors include his sons, William F. Jenkins Jr. and wife Dean of Colonial Heights, Thomas E. Jenkins Sr. and wife Peggy of Franklin and Richard A. Jenkins and Angie Hamlet of Bena; grandsons, Alan Jenkins of Colonial Heights, Thomas E. Jenkins Jr. and wife Bonnie of Tallahassee, Fla., Ryan Jenkins and wife Lisa of Hopewell, Jeffrey M. Jenkins and wife Shahwar of San Jacinto, Calif., Eric Jenkins of Colonial Heights and Joseph Howe III of Bena; great-grandchildren, Zachary, Taylor, Dalton, Mehvish and Kevin.
Funeral services officiated by the Rev. Thad Decker were held Sunday at Hogg Funeral Home, Gloucester Point. Interment followed in Rosewell Memorial Garden Cemetery.
