J. William Lambdin
COURTLAND—Dr. James William “Bill” Lambdin, MD, 91, died Dec. 23, 2008.
He was born June 19, 1917 in Pamplin, a son of the late Rev. A. Kenneth and Margaret Arthur Lambdin.
Mr. Lambdin received his bachelor’s degree from Emory & Henry College in 1938, where he lettered in track and basketball.
He was a captain of the track team where he ran the 880 and 440. He taught and coached at the Whaleyville School. Dr. Lambdin received his M. D. Degree from MCV in 1944 and interned at Lewis Gale Hospital in Roanoke. He entered the Army in 1945 and was discharged in 1947 with rank of captain.
He did his residency in internal medicine at MCV and McGuire’s Veterans Hospital.
Dr. Lambdin started Medical Practice (Internal Medicine) in Franklin Oct. 1, 1949 and retired in May, 1985, and was president of the Southampton Memorial Hospital medical staff in 1968.
He hunted with the Shiloh Hunt Club and was an honorary member of the Manry Hunt Club.
He loved fishing, and was known along the Outer Banks for his speckled trout catches.
Survivors include his wife of 21 years, Betty H. Lambdin; his children, Carol L. Lynn, Dale L. Brett (Dr. K. William Brett), Margaret L. Palau (Jeff Wilson), Rebecca P. Lambdin, James W. “BB” Lambdin Jr., his stepchildren, Stanley L. Harrell (Linda) and Kimberly H. Williams (Danny); grandchildren, Diana L. Flynn, Faunda Lynn, John Brett, Clifford Brett, Nellie Palau, James W. “Will” Lambdin III, “Little Sweetie”, Leslie Williams; five great-grandchildren; a sister, Elizabeth Erskine; and a brother, Dr. Morris Lambdin (JoAnne).
Dr. Lambdin was predeceased by a sister, Virginia L. Weaver and a brother, the Rev. A. Kenneth Lambdin Jr.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Riverside Cemetery, Courtland, with the Rev. Susan Reaves officiating.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at Wright Funeral Home and suggests memorials be made to a favorite charity.
