UNION, N.C.—Frances Ellen Horton Sumner, 76, died Dec. 4, 2008, at Roanoke Chowan Hospital.
She was born July 27, 1932 in Hertford County to the late Archie Craig Horton and Ima Lee Barham Horton.
She was a homemaker, a farmer’s wife, a very active member of Union United Methodist where she played the piano, a former member of Union Baptist Church, and a member of the Keenagers Club of Murfreesboro.
A Celebration of Life service was held Sunday in the Ashley Chapel of Garrett Funeral Home.
Burial followed in Highland Memorial Gardens. The Rev. Earl Perry officiated.
Survivors include her husband, Lawrence R. Sumner of the home; a daughter, Kim Sumner of Union; a son, Kenneth Sumner of Lewiston, N.C.; a sister, Thelma Mowels of Richmond; and one niece and five nephews.
She was predeceased by a daughter, Sharon Sumner, and a sister, Laverne Guess.
Garrett Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
