FRANKLIN—Ethel Frances Harcum Cobb, 100, widow of George Fenton Cobb, died Dec. 7, 2008.
Born on Dec. 18, 1907 in Southampton County, she was a daughter of the late Julius G. Harcum and Dora Gardner Harcum Daughtrey.
A graduate of the Euphradian Institute, she was the oldest living member of Sycamore Baptist Church and a member of its TEL class.
Survivors include her daughter, Evelyn C. Payne and husband Charles of Courtland; her grandson, George Thomas Carr of Chesapeake; her sister, Lois D. Daughtrey of Franklin; step-granddaughter, Sheryl Spencer and husband Mike of Christiansburg; step-grandson, John Payne and wife Cathy of Cleveland, Tenn.; eight step-great- grandchildren, 10 step-great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by two brothers, Julian Harcum and Robert Harcum, a sister, Doris D. Kirkland and a grandson, Floyd Michael Carr.
The funeral was held Tuesday in the chapel of Wright Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. Roger Crump and Rev. Matt Kidd officiating.
Interment followed in Poplar Spring Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the home of Evelyn and Charles Payne at 22514 South Main St., Courtland and suggests memorials be made to the East Pavilion Discretionary Fund or Sycamore Baptist Church.
