Carl Miller Sr.
HARRELLSVILLE, N.C.—Carl Miller Sr., 77, died Nov. 18, 2008, at his residence.
He was a native of Bertie County and a member of Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church.
Survivors include three sons, George Miller of Winton, N.C., Carl Miller Jr. of Colerain, N.C. and Sam Miller of Harrellsville; six daughters, Cindy D. Nichols and Mary Miller of Colerain, Doris Miller of Harrellsville, Peggy Miller of Ahoskie, N.C., Linda Miller of Murfreesboro, N.C. and Marion Tyler of Newport News; one brother, Ernest Miller of Harrellsville; one sister, Sadie Harrell of Harrellsville; and 18 grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Saturday at Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church by the Rev. Nathaniel Thompson.
Burial was in the church cemetery.

Curtis L. Saunders Sr.
HAMPTON—Curtis Lee Saunders Sr. died Nov. 22, 2008, at Sentara Health Careplex Hospital.
Mr. Saunders was born Dec. 25, 1950 in Surry County, to the late Arthur L. Thomas and Clara Mae Saunders-Shaw.
At an early age, he attended Gravel Hill Baptist Church, Surry.
He served our country in the U.S. Army in the Vietnam war.
He was a member of First Baptist Church East End, Newport News.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert Shaw and Wayne J. Shaw (Sharon).
Survivors include his children, Curtis L. Saunders Jr. and Torrance L. Saunders (Deandris) of Suffolk, Stephanie L. Saunders of Carrsville and Shonda L. Saunders of Zuni; stepfather, Albert Shaw; five grandchildren, Kianna and Keion Liggins, Collin Saunders, Trabeyon Ellis and Jameela Dorsey; brothers and sisters, Elder Joseph L. Shaw Sr. (Velma), Evelina Jones (Melvin, Albert Henry Shaw (Mary), Ted E. Shaw, Bernard Shaw (Jeanette), William Shaw, Larry Shaw (Lisa), Lamont Shaw (Pia) and Robin Tucker (Kenny); devoted uncle, Stanley Saunders (Vanessa); five devoted aunts; goddaughter, Quache Taylor; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today at First Baptist Church, 30th and Jefferson Street, Newport News, with the Rev. W. Marshall, pastor, officiating.
Interment will be in the Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery, Suffolk.
The remains will lie in repose at the church on today from 9:45 a.m. until the hour of service.
Relatives and friends will assemble at 20623 Thomas Woods Trail, Zuni, at 9 a.m.
Tucker Funeral Home, Petersburg, is in charge of arrangements.
