SMITHFIELD—Elsie Felts White, 85, died Nov. 12, 2008, after a lengthy illness.
Born in Southampton County, she had lived most of her life in Isle of Wight.
She was a life member of Pine Grove Assembly of God, where she taught Sunday school for many years.
A devoted wife and beloved mother, grandmother and sister, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Lloyd “Buster” White and two brothers, Clifton J. Felts and James M. Felts.
Survivors include her two daughters, Carol W. Darden and Betty Lou W. Edwards and husband Johnny; six grandchildren, Terry Darden DeVries (Dave), Kimberly L. Darden, Karen E. Webb (Steve), J. Marc Edwards (Michelle), Christopher L. Edwards (Cynthia) and R. Shawn Darden (Angel); five sisters, Nannie Council, Dorothy Wade, Louise Pittman, Frances Lassiter and Betty Abernathy; nine great-grandchildren; her beloved caretaker for many years, Louise Peden; and a host of nieces and nephews and extended family.
A life celebration service was to be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in Pine Grove Assembly of God, with the Rev. Jack Dobson officiating.
Burial was to follow in Old St. Luke Cemetery, with a reception following to honor the family in the church social hall.
Colonial Funeral Home, Smithfield, was in charge of arrangements.
