CHESAPEAKE—Carl Alan Barber, 52, died Nov. 6, 2008, at his home.
Born in Fort Eustis, he was a graduate of Kempsville High School, Class of 1974.
He was a master firefighter working with the City of Virginia Beach Fire Department for 32 years.
He was a member of Hickory United Methodist Church, Kempsville Masonic Lodge as well as a charter member of the Virginia Beach Professional Firefighters Association.
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Spivey Barber; his mother, Charline A. Pulliam of Norfolk; two daughters, Holly Murphy and husband Kyle of Virginia Beach and Amanda B. Wilson and husband Larry of Chesapeake; two sisters, Sherry Holmes of Zuni and Nina Butler of Virginia Beach; three grandchildren, Kylie Murphy of Virginia Beach, Lainie Wilson of Chesapeake and Kendall Murphy of Virginia Beach; and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his father, James R. Barber.
A funeral was conducted Monday in Community United Methodist Church, Virginia Beach, with the Rev. Thomas L. Mercer officiating.
Burial followed in Rosewood Memorial Park.
Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel, was in charge of arrangements.
