Investigators from the Southampton County Sheriff’s Office are teaming with other area law enforcement officials to search for three men wanted in connection with a recent armed robbery.

“We are currently working with the Suffolk Police Department and Naval Criminal Investigative Service,” said Detective Cpl. Richard Morris, Southampton County Sheriff’s Office spokesman.

According to the incident report, a man was coming home a little after 1 a.m. on Oct. 17 when three men jumped out of a gold-colored car, attacked him and stole more than $500 he had in his pocket.

The victim, who lives in Southampton Meadows mobile home park off Route 258, had come home from a late shift at his shipyard job and had just cashed his paycheck, Morris said.

Soon after the robbery, Deputy Robert Stevens spotted the suspects’ car and chased it into Franklin.

“The vehicle tried to make a turn on a side road off South Street and ended up going through the front yard of Vaughan Funeral Home,” Morris said.

The detective said three men got out of the 2005 gold Chevrolet Impala and ran.

“A K-9 unit was dispatched from Suffolk to assist but was unable to locate the suspects,” he said.

Two firearms were recovered from the car.

Morris said he is working with Suffolk police and NCIS to establish leads.

The latter agency may have clues since the car was registered to someone in the military, he said.
