WAKEFIELD—Linda Diane Urquhart Washington, 58, died Nov. 1, 2008.
She was born in Newport News on July 16, 1950, to the late Bennie Urquhart Sr. and Eva V. Gay Urquhart.
She was loved by all that she met. She was known for her quiet and humble spirit, her kind heart, her strength, her dedication, and most of all, her love for God.
She retired from 33 years of dedicated service with the United States Postal Service in Washington, D.C.
She was a graduate of Sussex Central High School, where she excelled in all classes.
At an early age, she confessed Jesus as her Lord and Savior.
At Mars Hill AM. Zion Church, she was a member as well as she was the president of the missionary society, the gospel choir, senior choir, and a delegate for the district and annual conference.
In 2008, she was named layperson of the year.
At Pilgrim Baptist Church in Washington. D.C., she sung on the choir and was known for being a diligent worker and an active member.
Survivors include her mother Eva Urquhart; her two sons, Diego Urquhart Sr. (Vickie) and Marcell “Bryan” Euell; eight grandchildren, Cheree, Diego Jr., and Elijah Urquhart, Tajaé and Desmond Euell, Jacob and Janeasha Starks, and Bobrianna Perkins; brother, Bennie Urquhart Jr. (Gloria); sisters, Marion Hamlin (Dwight), and Gloria Mason; uncle, Clyde Gay (Daisy); aunt, Alice Johnson (Ulysses); five nephews, Corey, Marquise, Darryl, Eric, and Michael; three nieces, Chavonne, Ciera and Sharnese; a host of relatives, co-workers, family members and friends; two lifelong friends, James Baker and Albert Euel; aunts, Helen Calm and Pearline Hawkins.
She is preceded in death by her grandparents, Mary and Marvin Gay; her two uncles, Marvin Gay Jr. and Theodore Gay Sr.
A wake will be held today at Peace-Bland Funeral Home from 7 to 8 p.m.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Mars Hill AME Zion Church, 401 E. Main St., Wakefield.
Interment will follow at Booker T. Memorial Cemetery, Wakefield.
Peace-Bland Funeral Home, Waverly, is in charge of arrangements.
