Isle of Wight Academy finished off its regular season with a 49-12 victory over Greenbrier Christian Academy Friday night, and now the Chargers will wait to see if they have a home or road playoff game next week.

The Chargers started the week third in the Virginia Independent Schools Division III standings, just behind North Cross. North Cross won Friday night, but Fuqua School’s win Friday night could put the Chargers in second place in the state.

The final poll was to be tabulated on Saturday and was not available at press time. If IWA finishes second, the Chargers will play North Cross at home Friday at 7:30 p.m. If the Chargers end up third, they will play North Cross in Roanoke at 3 p.m. Friday.

IWA quarterback Daniel Brown threw for three touchdowns and rushed for another to lead the Chargers (9-1).

Although Greenbrier came into the game winless, IWA head coach Dale Chapman reminded his team that the Gators play in Division II.

“We did go into the game practicing all week assuming we were going to win the game. But we tried to make sure they were focused and that we were playing a Division II team and they see tough competition every week,” Chapman said. “The playing field might be a little more level.”
