Southampton County investigators are asking for the public’s help to locate the person who took expensive lawn equipment and a trailer from a landscaper.

Deputies were called to Justin’s Lawn Care, in the 26000 block of Crossroads Drive, on Tuesday morning for a report of a stolen vehicle.

A white, 28-foot Pace American dual axle cargo trailer containing two yellow and black 2008 Hustler Super Z riding lawn mowers had been stolen overnight, according to Detective Cpl. Richard Morris, Southampton County Sheriff’s Office spokesman.

The thief or thieves “cut the lock securing the trailer hitch,” he said.

The items stolen were worth more than $25,000, Morris said.

Sgt. M. L. Darden and Deputy D. R. Edwards are investigating the case.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Crime Solvers line at 653-2900. Calls remain anonymous. There could be up to a $1,000 reward for any information leading to the arrest of those involved.
