Stanton and her supporters demean law enforcement

Dear Editor:

I am a law enforcement officer in Isle of Wight County. Regarding the race for Commonwealth’s Attorney, I have read a number of letters to the editor in this and other papers where supporters of Mrs. Stanton attacked and demeaned the work of local law enforcement.

I understand that, at one appearance, Mrs. Stanton accused Norfolk law enforcement of abuses in one of her cases. At the candidate’s forum, she said she stopped prosecuting after only a brief period 15 years ago because, again, she saw “abuses.”

Finally, Mrs. Stanton has accused the three top law enforcement officers in Isle of Wight of being “uninformed” because they do not support her. How will Mrs. Stanton ever develop the necessary working relationship with our officers if she has such a low opinion of them?

Our officers put their lives on the line every day. Many of them have dedicated their entire careers to protecting the citizens of Isle of Wight. To demean that service simply for political gain is shameful.

I will vote for Wayne Farmer on Nov. 4 because he has a proven record of working with and respecting local law enforcement.
