NEWPORT NEWS—Susie Bell Manley, of the 4400 block of Marshall Avenue, died Oct. 20, 2008.
A native of Nansemond County (Suffolk), she was the daughter of the late Hersey and Rebecca Hinton Berry and the widow of Alex Manley.
She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Elnora Artis, and a son, Alvin Lewis Manley.
Mrs. Manley was a member of Zion United Church of Christ, Suffolk, where she was a member of the Women’s Fellowship, Pastor’s Aid, Senior Choir and was a former usher.
Survivors include six daughters, Marion Lee Jackson, Lee Dora Cotton, Minister Eula Marshall, Mary Linda McLean (Eddie), Esther Norman, all of Newport News, and Shelia Manley of Suffolk; three sons, Alex Manley Jr. and Norris Manley, both of Suffolk, and Tony Linwood Manley of Capron; 24 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; devoted friends, Catherine and Alfred Copeland; nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.
A Celebration of Life service was to be held at 1p.m. Saturday at Zion United Church of Christ by the Rev. Joseph Copeland.
Entombment will be at Carver Memorial Cemetery.
The family will be at the home of Eula Marshall, 14563 Old Courthouse Way, Unit F, Newport News.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Marshall and Richardson Scholarship Foundation.
Crocker Funeral Home, Suffolk, is handling arrangements.
