COURTLAND—Sadie Olivia Jordan Buck affectionately known as “Miss Sadie” of Main Street, died Oct. 22, 2008, in Suffolk.
“Miss Sadie” was a native of Southampton County and a member of Antioch United Church of Christ, where she was church musician for 47 years.
Mrs. Buck was a substitute teacher in the Portsmouth, Suffolk and Franklin School Systems.
Over the years, she served as musician for many churches, namely, New First Baptist Church, Balm of Gilead Baptist Church, Beech Street Holiness Church, Suffolk and Healing Temple Pentecostal Church, Portsmouth.
“Miss Sadie” was preceded in death by her parents, Nathaniel M. and Annie L. Ricks Buck; one sister, Rosalia Collins; one brother, Nathaniel Jordan Jr., and her grandparents who raised her, Matt and Laura Jordan.
Survivors include one son, Calvin A. Buck Sr. and wife Marion of Lynchburg; three sisters, Mary Harper, Rhoda Harper and Goldie Harper; three brothers, Terrie Harper, Bobby Harper and Ralphie Harper; four grandchildren, Taneesha M. Buck, Calvin Buck Jr. and wife Erica, Maurice Buck and Devin Buck; three great-grandchildren, Cameron Buck, Kenron Joyner and MarTavis Buck; one aunt, Vasthi Moore and devoted friends, Charlie and Betty Buck.
A life’s celebration will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at O’Berry AME Zion Church, 31490 O’Berry Church Road, Franklin, with the Rev. Calvin A. Buck Jr., eulogist.
Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
On the day of service, her remains will be placed in church for viewing by 11:30 a.m.
