Robert L. Carr Sr.
NORFOLK—Robert L. “Buddy” Carr Sr., 63, of New Bedford, Mass., died Sept. 27, 2008, at St. Luke’s Hospital after a long illness.
He was the husband of Cathleen M. (Delaney) Carr.
Born and raised in Norfolk, the son of the late Harry and Earleene (Temple) Carr, he has lived in New Bedford since 1978.
Mr. Carr was the director of the Seamen’s Bethel for many years and previously was a homicide detective in Portsmouth.
He was a member of the New Bedford Port Society, the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick, The Star in the East Lodge, A.F. & M. and volunteered as a circus clown at the Shriner’s Hospital.
He enjoyed the outdoors, fishing and talking on his ham radio.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Kyle Taylor of New Bedford and Robert Carr Jr. of Suffolk; three daughters, Sara Borden of New Bedford, Kelly Messer of Charlottesville and Robin Rose of Franklin; a brother, Howard Carr and wife Marie of Virginia Beach; five grandchildren, Jaden Borden, Logan Menard, Aaron Messer, Jacob Messer and Tyler Rose; five nieces and eight nephews.
A funeral was held in the Seamen’s Bethel on Oct. 2 in New Bedford.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Rosewood Kellum Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Shriners Hospitals for Children.
