Investment in Boys & Girls Club is investment in future

To the Editor:

I hope that, as a community, we can come together and help the Boys & Girls Club.

I know at some point in all of our lives we have seen an underprivileged child who was in need of help in some way. We say, “I wish there was something I could do.”

This is our chance to help. This a great investment in all of our futures, not just that child’s. One of these children that attend the club may be a future governor of Virginia. How proud would we be, as a community, to say we all contributed in getting that child the tools he or she needed to be successful in life?

I grew up in Norfolk and spent many days in the Boys & Girls Club in Norview. It impacted my life in so many ways.

I hope we can stop asking what can we do to change the lives of these children and start taking action and taking our community back from drugs and violence. If out of 100 children we save one from a life of crime or violence, then it was worth it.

This program has the opportunity to teach our local children the right path to follow and the confidence to make a difference in their own lives. I think we owe it to our community to invest in all of our futures.
