Happy birthday, Ivor

There are many times when being part of a tiny, tight-knit community might make one swell with pride, especially when you’re there to see that small town come together and pull off something big.

That was certainly the case Saturday in Ivor. Residents there have been planning their 100-year birthday celebration for months, maybe even years. And they pulled it off without a hitch, much to the delight of those attending.

Now, a street fair, concert and memorabilia exhibit might have been enough for a town that size, but Ivor wasn’t satisfied with “just enough” when it came to its big bash.

The town hosted hundreds of folks and gave them a huge parade with local, state and national dignitaries, cloggers, glass blowing demonstrations, a petting zoo, craft booths and a concert — not to mention a huge finale fireworks display.

You name it, it may have been there in Ivor on Saturday.

And the town’s residents got in the act, sprucing up their front yards, fixing up their businesses and showing guests exactly what it means when someone says “Southern charm.”

Not to be outdone, six local churches raised voices in song for a beautiful community choir concert, too.

The satisfaction was evident as people happily waited in line for barbecue or perused old newspaper clippings and photos in the municipal building.

It was chilly outside, but the scene warmed our hearts.

Congratulations, Ivor, on 100 years and on giving everyone a fantastic day.

Now, take a break. Two hundred isn’t as far off as you think.
