Jabari Turner ran for 248 yards in the first half as Sussex Central sprinted to a big halftime lead and routed Windsor 42-0.

Dedicated Windsor fans fought the rain and cool temperatures as the Dukes fell to 6-2 on the year. Sussex improved to 4-3.

The Dukes managed just 88 yards rushing and completed 6-of-19 passes for 56 yards. Layfette Murphy led Windsor with 14 carries for 71 yards.

The Tigers, meantime, rolled up 421 rushing yards.

“In order to get back on track, we need four good days of practice,” said Windsor coach Bruce Carroll. “We did not have that at all this week. This game was a wakeup call to show us that we need to continue getting better just like everyone else in the district has been getting.”

Sussex coach Curtis Jefferson called the victory “our first step to winning the district.”

“Last year we struggled with penalties when facing Windsor; tonight we played our most disciplined game against them and it paid off.”

Windsor plays at Surry next week in a Tri-Rivers District game.
