Southampton Academy rallies past Quantico

Southampton Academy outscored Quantico 20-0 in the second half to post a come-from-behind 27-13 win on homecoming here Friday.

The Raiders improved to 5-3 while the Warriors dropped to 2-5.

SA finished with 477 yards of offense and held the visitors to 185.

The Warriors scored first on a 37-yard touchdown pass with 3:35 left in the first quarter. The Raiders tied the score at 7 when John Hinkle ran for a 31-yard touchdown with 45 seconds left in the first quarter. Tyler Lass made the extra point.

The Warriors went up 13-7 on a 53-yard touchdown with 2:13 left in the first half. The extra point was no good.

The Raiders tied the score at 13 on David Bogese’s 6-yard touchdown with 7:12 left in the third quarter. The extra point was no good.

The Raiders took their first lead on Jacob Rose’s 1-yard touchdown with 9:51 left in the game. The extra point was no good. The Raiders then made it 27-13 when Rose scored his second touchdown of the night on a 14-yard run with 7:10 left. Bogese ran in the two-point conversion.

Hinkle led the Raiders with 17 carries for 219 yards and a touchdown. Rose and Michael Milteer each added 72 yards.

Lass completed 3-of-6 passes for 38 yards.

“We got it worked out in the second half,” said SA coach Dale Marks, whose team overcame three turnovers. “We’ve really been working hard to eliminate (fumbles), and luckily it didn’t cost us a victory tonight like it has two other times this year. The guys in the second half really stepped up.”

Southampton travels to Isle of Wight Academy next week.
