Franklin posts second straight shutout

Franklin scored three touchdowns on defense and held Charles City to minus-30 yards of offense as the Broncos romped to a 50-0 victory here Friday in a Tri-Rivers District game.

Franklin jumped out to a 38-0 halftime lead, which included fumble recoveries for touchdowns by Tyler Childress, Timarus Reid and Aaron Smith.

The Broncos opened the game with a 3-yard touchdown run and two-point conversion by Isaiah Hudson to go up 8-0 with 9:49 left in the first quarter. Five minutes later, Daquan Clemons broke a 36-yard run for a touchown and also scored the two-point conversion to put Franklin up 16-0.

With 16 seconds to play in the first quarter, Childress recovered a fumble and raced to the end zone for a 22-0 lead.

Franklin stretched the lead to 30-0 on Malik Brown’s 70-yard touchdown run. Reid finished the scoring in the first half with his fumble recovery for a touchdown at 3:15.

In the third quarter, Smith also recovered a fumble for a touchdown with 8:03 remaining, and the Broncos led 44-0.

Franklin’s final score came with 11:19 left to play when Derek Boone rushed 1 yard for a touchdown.

Franklin had 237 yards of offense and posted its second consecutive shutout after blanking Surry last week.

Franklin, 6-1, plays at Nandua in non-district action at 7 p.m. Friday.

Charles City fell to 0-7.
