PORTSMOUTH—Kathleen H. Reed died Oct. 10, 2008, at her son’s home in Courtland.
A native of Sault Ste. Marie, Mich., she was a retired registered nurse, receiving her nursing certificate from Mercy Hospital in Detroit.
She nursed locally at Maryview and Portsmouth General Hospitals.
Mrs. Reed was a volunteer at the Franklin and S.P. Morton libraries in Franklin and was a Friend of the Portsmouth Library.
She was an active member of St. Therese Catholic Church in Chesapeake, volunteering for Meals on Wheels, working on church landscaping and flower beds, and serving as a eucharistic minister among other activities.
She enjoyed traveling, helping others, and anything that involved her grandson.
She was predeceased by her husband, Thomas (Tom) Reed Sr.; parents Haddo and Bridget (Bee) Harrison; and brother, Bob Harrison.
Survivors include her sons, Tom Jr. and David Reed; grandson, Christopher Reed; brothers, Pat and Mike Harrison; special nieces, Rose and Julia Mary Brooks; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family extends special thanks to the medical personnel and volunteers who attended to her throughout her illness, particularly the Suffolk Office of Sentara Hospital Hospice Program.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Thursday in St. Therese’s Catholic Church, 4137 Portsmouth Blvd., Chesapeake, VA 23321.
The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the Mass.
Burial will be in Portsmouth Catholic Cemetery.
Foster Funeral Home, Portsmouth, is handling arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in the name of Kathleen Reed to either the American Cancer Society or Sentara Hospital Hospice Program.
