W. Shepard Johnson Jr.
FRANKLIN—Wade Shepard Johnson Jr., 91, died Oct. 6, 2008, in Sentara Obici Hospital.
Born in Pine Tops, N.C., he was the son of the late Mary H. and Wade Shepard, Johnson Sr.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, June Kalber Johnson and his sister, Minnie Away this past week.
Mr. Johnson proudly served during WW II and in the US Navy for 20 years and retired as a Master Chief Petty Officer-Gunners Mate.
He was a member of Holy Neck Christian Church, Franklin and Whaleyville Masonic Lodges, Franklin and Whaleyville Eastern Star, Portsmouth Scottish Rites, Royal Arch of Suffolk and was former member of Holy Neck Ruritan Club.
He received from the United Daughters of the Confederacy in April of 2007 the Cross of Military Service.
Survivors include his wife, Marjorie Flythe Johnson; daughter, Terri Ann Johnson of Williamsburg; sons, Wade S. Johnson III of Warsaw, Robert W. Johnson of Suffolk and Kenneth T. Johnson of California; granddaughters, Jennifer L. Johnson, Janet L. Johnson, Amy W. Johnson; grandson, Jeffrey W. Johnson; nephews, Roy and Ray Duke; stepchildren, Carter, Katie, Marge; seven step grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 2 p.m in Holy Neck Christian Church by the Rev. Doland Talbert.
Burial with Masonic and Military honors will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends in the R. W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home & Crematory Thursday from 7 to 8:30 p.m.
