Joseph H. Rose
NORFOLK—Dr. Joseph Holoman Rose, 90, of the 900 block of Elon Court, died Oct. 1, 2008.
He was born in Ivor, the son of Allen and Martha Rose, the fourth of six predeceased siblings.
“Joe Rose,” as he was known by friends, was a “legend in his own time.” He has made more imprints on more lives than most people could make in two lifetimes.
Writer, author and retired plasterer, he was a voice who “told it like it was.”
He helped and encouraged citizens to participate in mainstream society whose steps had been order and guided.
Survivors include his wife, Ednae L. Rose; daughters, Dr. Myra Rose Pace (Clifford) and Joann Rose Britt Watson (Randolph); sons, Allen Rose and Donovan J. Rose (Sylvia); eight grandchildren; four sisters-in-love, Myrtle Fauntleroy, Doris Goins and Florence Eley and Bessie Averette; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A memorial service was held Monday in the chapel of Graves Funeral Home, 1631 Church St., Norfolk, by Dr. Robert G. Murray of First Baptist Church Bute Street.
Per the families request, no flowers please.
