Martha J. Ridley
SUFFOLK—Martha J. Ridley, died Sept. 24, 2008, in Obici Memorial Hospital.
She was born Feb. 17, 1943, in Surry, to the late Gladys Johnson and Kemple Morgan.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank B. Ridley; two sisters, Mayble Crocker and Catherine Johnson; and granddaughter, Jar’meisha E. Ridley.
She was a faithful member of First Baptist Church. Wakefield, where she participated as a choir member. She devoted most of her life to helping others.
Survivors include one son, Earl L. Johnson (Denise); two daughters, Francine R. Williams (James) and Evonda R. Ridley, all of Wakefield; one granddaughter, D’Andra E. Ridley of Colonial Heights; one great-grandchild, Leah A. Hyman; four sisters, Vivian Latney (James), Geraldine Myers (Henry), both of Bowling Green, Nannie Minor of Fredericksburg and Willie Mae Fulgham (Henry) of Suffolk; one brother, Logene Johnson (Patricia) of Melbourne, Fla.; devoted friends, Amanda Gilliam, Kathaleen Clark and Sharon Thornton; a very special and devoted friend, Major L. Smith; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A funeral service was held Tuesday at First Baptist Church Wakefield, with the Rev. Bobby Ricks Sr., officiating.
The interment followed at Booker T. Memorial Park, Wakefield.
William N. Bland and Son Funeral Home, was in charge of arrangements.
