Why turn down a willing volunteer firefighter?

I don’t know about denying a young, able body, with some experience, willing to take risks and give up his free time to be a volunteer firefighter. That is what I see happening.

I am acquainted with a man who has applied with the Drewryville Fire Department. It is my understanding that he was not accepted due to not living within the run area.

This young man has a Capron address and resides 6.5 miles from the Drewryville Fire Department. He spends 80 percent of his time after working a full-time job at my residence, which is only a tenth of a mile from the firehouse.

I think this is wrong. First of all, I would like to think that more is always better. I’ve seen times in the past when no one was around to even respond.

How long does it take to drive 6.5 miles? What if you needed help? Wake up, people. Seems to me if you’re not in the clique, you don’t get in, and that’s really sad.
