Armory Stadium upkeep is a team effort

To the Editor:

While I am very appreciative of the article concerning Armory Stadium (“Field of dreams,” Sunday, Sept. 14), I am certainly not the only person involved with its upkeep. I would like to give credit to other city staff who are as worthy of the praise given to me in the article.

Eldridge “Billy Ocean” Beale, my co-worker and friend, handles most of the spraying for weed control and fertilization. The Public Works Department’s Russ Pace and Chad Edwards allow Parks and Recreation to use their funds to help with the upkeep of the stadium and their staff for setting up and moving the goal post and bleachers — and any other things that we can’t handle. Ray Morings of Public Works oversees the janitorial aspects of the stadium.

Without this team effort, the condition of Armory Stadium wouldn’t be possible. Our goal is to give the Franklin High School Broncos, the visiting teams and fans the best facility possible. It is still a work in progress that all of us are working to improve.

In closing, the Turner Field name was a joke started years ago by Dave Lease and Travis Felts of FHS because I was so controlling of the field’s use. Those guys are friends, but I’m not sure that it was meant as a compliment. You would have to ask them.
