Wanted: Photograph of old Route 58 bridge

Published 5:40 pm Friday, September 12, 2008

Soon the Business Route 58 Bridge we have been going over since around 1936 will be gone and a new bridge will take its place.

Change is good, and so is bridge safety, so it is time for the old one to go. You would truly agree if you rode under the one that is being replaced and saw what it looked like.

I think it would be pretty cool, though, after the new bridge is built to be able to look at the bridges (photos) of the past and present them side-by-side just to see what these vital links to destinations to our east looked like in comparison.

So if anybody out there has a picture of the bridge that was there before the current bridge, please let me know. Either e-mail it to me or let me make a copy of it. The bridge that was in place before the current bridge was an iron truss bridge, I believe, according to a faint drawing I have of it in 1907.

In fact, any pictures of bridges before the current bridge would really be great. I can be reached at blknotkpr@earthlink.net or 562-5173.
