Charles Woodard

MURFREESBORO, N.C.—Charles Ray Woodard, 73, died Aug. 20, 2008, at Southampton Memorial Hospital, surrounded by his family.
Mr. Woodard had been preceded in death by his parents Charlie Gray and Effie Birdsong Woodard, and three brothers, Clifton, Willie, and Lee Woodard.
A native of Margarettsville, N.C., he retired after working in sales with Flowers Bread Company for 38 years and was a member of Ashley’s Grove Baptist Church where he served as Deacon for many years.
Also, he was a member of the American George Masonic Lodge No, 17, serving at one time as its Master, was a Scottish Rite Mason and member of the Order of the Eastern Star, where he held the office of Worthy Patron, and he was a Shriner.
Above all, he was best known for his devotion to his family as a loving husband, daddy and “Pop”.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Caroleen Futrell Woodard of their home; two daughters, Charlotte Woodard Edwards and husband, M. Scott, of Murfreesboro and Patsy Woodard Taylor and husband Stacey of Conway, N.C.; three grandchildren, Matthew S. Edwards, Michael S. Edwards, both of Murfreesboro and Kaitlyn Rae Taylor of Conway; two sisters, Martha W. Royal and husband, Francis of Littleton, N.C. and Jean W. Melville and husband Bill of Clayton, N.C.
Funeral services were held Saturday in Ashley’s Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. David Ross presiding. Entombment followed in the Town of Conway Cemetery.
