SEDLEY—Despite its name, local band Land of Dust is everything but dry.

The musicians, who have only been together a little more than a year, are already scheduled to open Aug. 10 for national hard rock act Ra at Zakk’s Coffeehouse in Murfreesboro, N.C.

Members of the band are Scott Phillips, 36, of Franklin on lead guitar; John Blythe, 34, of Franklin on bass and vocals; Blake Stacy, 23, of Franklin on rhythm guitar; and Travis Benson, 34, of Sedley on drums.

The band describes its music as primarily rock — a mix of different versions of it — peppered with metal and alternative.

While more than half of the songs “Dust” plays are originals, they also perform covers from artists such as Kiss, Judas Priest, Godsmack, Black Sabbath and Alice in Chains.

“Where do we want to go?” asked Phillips rhetorically. “Wherever it takes us.”
