Meredith Thelma Britt, 18, of Courtland, was named the 2008 Franklin-Southampton County Fair Queen Wednesday night.

Jennifer Jane Woulf, 17, of Franklin, was named first runner-up.

Britt, who plans to attend Radford University this fall, is the daughter of Deborah Vinson Britt and Keith Franklin Britt Sr.

The queen pageant was delayed about 30 minutes because of a power failure to the sound system during the preceding talent show.

The 28th annual fair, which began Wednesday under mostly clear skies and unusually cool temperatures, continues through Saturday night.

Britt was crowned by 2007 Fair Queen Mallory Taylor.
