Isle of Wight Fair sets headliners

R&B legend Percy Sledge and country stars John Anderson and Eric Church will be the headline entertainers for the Isle of Wight County Fair, which returns Sept. 18-21 after a one-year hiatus.

Kicking off the event from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 18, will be regional favorites Island Boy, bringing its blend of rock, soul, R&B and party tune, with a splash of Caribbean, to the fair’s first-ever Seafood Fest.

On Friday night, Percy Sledge & Sunset Drive hit the stage from 9:30 p.m. to 11 p.m. Sledge, best known for his single “When a Man Loves a Woman,” was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2005. Opening for Percy Sledge will be Off the Chain.

Saturday night, country legend and Grammy Award winner John Anderson is the headliner. His No. 1 singles include “Wild & Blue,” “Swingin,” “Black Sheep,” “Straight Tequila Night,” “Seminole Wind,” “Money in the Bank” and “I Wish I Could Have Been There.”

Wild Heart and Unlimited Access, a Southern rock and country band, will open for Anderson.

Sunday’s headliner is Church, a Capital Records recording artist whose debut CD, &uot;Sinner Like Me,&uot; took the country music world by storm in 2005. The album produced three Top 20 country hits – &uot;How ‘Bout You,&uot; &uot;Two Pink Lines&uot; and &uot;Guys Like Me.&uot; His new CD, entitled &uot;Carolina,&uot; is due out this summer. The Heather Edwards Band will open for Church.

The Isle of Wight County Fair is held at The Fairgrounds at Heritage Park on Route 258.
