AULANDER, N.C.—David A. Byrd, 83, died July 9, 2008, at Bertie Memorial Hospital, in Windsor, N.C.

Mr. Byrd was a World War II veteran, member and deacon of Holly Grove Baptist Church and a retired employee of Roanoke-Chowan Hospital.

Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Evelyn Parker Byrd; sons, Ronald Byrd and wife Anne of Ahoskie, N.C., Kenneth Byrd and wife, Barbara of Aulander, and Maynard Byrd and Sally of Ahoskie; sister, Ruby B. DeBerry of Bentonsville, S.C.; three grandchildren, Elaine Vaughan and husband Keith of Murfreesboro, N.C., Pamela Cale and husband Daniel of Aulander and Travis Byrd of Durham, N.C.; three great-grandchildren, Thomas Vaughan, Amber and Parker Cale.

Funeral services will be held today at 11 a.m. at Massey Funeral Home in Aulander. Burial will follow at Aulander Cemetery.
