Fannie H. Jenkins

SMITHFIELD—Fannie Elaine Harrison Jenkins, 82, died June 25, 2008.

She was born on April 9, 1926, in Surry County, and grew up at Burwells Bay.

She was employed by Gwaltney Inc. for many years.

She was also employed by Smithfield Livestock, Inc. and in later years, she worked for Isle of Wight Grainery Inc. before retiring.

Mrs. Jenkins was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church, where she served in many capacities over the years including Sunday School teacher, trustee, official board member, and church treasurer.

Raised on the James River, she loved swimming, boating and fishing.

She enjoyed all sorts of crafts over the years. She loved to knit, crochet, sew, scrapbook, and was an avid bridge player.

She enjoyed working outside and always stayed busy.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Thomas Jenkins; her parents, Raymond and Willie Harrison; and a granddaughter, Dana Elaine Doggett.

Survivors include a daughter, Connie Doggett and husband Michael Sr. of Windsor; a son, Ronnie Jenkins and wife Cathie of Smithfield; and four grandchildren, Kristi Edwards and husband Earl of Smithfield, Kara Hearn and husband Corey of Smithfield,

Rachael Klopfer and husband Joe of Pacific Grove, Calif., and Michael Doggett Jr. of Windsor. She has three great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Bethany UMC with the Rev. Tommy Reynolds officiating.

Burial will follow in the Bethany Cemetery.
