Bertha R. Woodard

HAMPTON—Bertha “Cook” Ricks Woodard, 62, of Courtland, died June 18, 2008, in Hampton.
Mrs. Woodard was born Oct. 24, 1945, in Courtland. She attended Riverview High School and graduated in 1965.
She worked at Sears, Nomads and finally found a career working as a supervisor in gourmet services at Hampton University.
She was an avid bowler who won numerous trophies.
Survivors include her husband, Dennis “Woody-D” Woodard; sons, Marcus Ricks and Edward Ricks, both of Hampton; sisters, Adell Ricks Lankford and Marynett Ricks, both of Courtland and Odell Williams (James) of Newport News.; brothers, William H. “Mutt” Ricks of Lancaster, Pa. and Albert S. “Duke” Ricks of Courtland; and a host of family members and friends.
A funeral service was held Sunday at Zion Southampton AME Zion Church, Courtland,
by the Rev. Christopher A. Eason. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Engram Funeral Home, 1001 Armory Drive, Franklin, was in charge of arrangements.
