SMITHFIELD—Ada B. Wright, died June 19, 2008.
She was preceded in death by her sons, Paris and Ralph S. Brown Sr.
Born and reared in Surry County, she moved to New York as an adult.
Mrs. Wright had a love for family and people, but a talent and passion for sewing. This would become her career.
She would spend more than 40 years in New York City, working for Max Wise’s Dress Shop on Madison Avenue, until she retired in 1976.
Passionately known as Miss Ada or Granny, she leaves many memories to her daughter, Arlethia Roberts (James); granddaughter, Leah R. Luscombe; grandsons, James Roberts Jr. (Dawnne), Joseph Dwayne Brown (Toni), Darryl Roberts (Nadja); great-grandchildren, Jordan Roberts, Joseph D. Brown II and Darryl Roberts Jr.; a sister, Sarah Harris; daughter-in-law, Lelia Frances Brown; many nieces, nephews, cousins and numerous special friends.
Funeral services will be held at noon today at Mt. Nebo Baptist Church with Pastor Daniel L. Baltimore officiating.
Interment will be in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Wright will also be viewed at the church one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.
Arrangements are being handled by Poole’s Funeral Home.
