SUFFOLK—Chester C. Fifer, 68, of the 200 block of Burnetts Way, died June 12, 2008, in Sentara Obici Hospital.

Mr. Fifer was a retired chief petty officer from the United States Navy and also retired from VDOT after 24 years.

He was a member of the Fleet Reserve Association.

He was predeceased by his wife, Mary Anne Fifer.

Survivors include two sons, William L. Fifer of Chesapeake and John W. Fifer of Smithfield; a granddaughter, Leann M. Schaefer and husband Jeffery; a grandson, Daniel L. Fifer; and two great-granddaughters, RileighAnne M. Schaefer and Skylar L. Schaefer, all of Chesapeake.

A funeral was conducted Sunday at Snellings Funeral Home, George Washington Highway Chapel, with the Rev. David Alger officiating.

Burial followed in Chesapeake Memorial Gardens.
