George D. Goodwin

SUFFOLK—George Dean “Papa” Goodwin, 81, of the 5800 block of Godwin Blvd., died June 3, 2008, at Sentara Obici Hospital.
Mr. Goodwin, a native of Isle of Wight County, was the son of the late Dean V. and Pearl Eley Jones Goodwin and widower of the late Vera Victoria Goodwin.
He retired as a Rigger from the Norfolk Naval Shipyards after 40 years of service and operator of Goodwin’s Grass Service.
Survivors include two sons, Pastor Ronald Goodwin (Jacqueline) of Suffolk and Deacon Richard Goodwin of Portsmouth; two daughters, Rita Howard of Syracuse, N.Y. and Lee Cherry Vincent of Norfolk; five sisters, Irene Jones and Virginia Jones of Hampton, Darleen Spratley, Mary-Jean Scott and Margaret Goodwin of Smithfield; one brother, Prophet Spencil Goodwin of Smithfield; one aunt, Elnora Goodwin of Suffolk; five great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. tomorrow at Diamond Grove Baptist Church, 6890 Crittenden Road, Suffolk.
Interment will be at the Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens.
