NORFOLK—A Franklin man is being held in the Norfolk City Jail, accused of shooting another man in Courtland on Saturday.

Norfolk police arrested Eric Owen Parker, 18, of Thomas Street in Franklin Tuesday night in a cooperative effort with the Southampton County Sheriff’s Office and the U.S. Marshals Service, according to Detective Cpl. Richard Morris, spokesman for the Southampton law enforcement agency.

Parker also goes by the aliases “Eric Mayfield” and “Shooter,” Morris said Wednesday.

Parker is charged with aggravated malicious wounding stemming from an incident Saturday afternoon on Oak Trail in Courtland.

Police said Parker walked up to a 19-year-old man in the street and shot him point-blank in the face. Investigators are trying to determine what might have led to the shooting, Morris said.

Police have declined to identify the victim of the attack, citing ongoing concerns for his safety. Following the shooting, the victim was flown to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, where he remains under care.

Parker was arrested following a foot pursuit in Norfolk, Morris said, adding that Norfolk charges are possible, as well as other criminal charges in Southampton.

Parker is being held in the Norfolk jail without bond.
