COURTLAND—A Petersburg man is in the hospital in critical condition after being shot in the face Saturday on Oak Trail.
A witness called 911 at about 2:42 p.m. Saturday and reported that a person had been shot and was lying in the road. The victim was later transported by Nightingale helicopter to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.
Detective Cpl. Richard Morris, a spokesman for the Southampton Sheriff’s Office, declined Monday to identify the man who was injured.
He said witnesses told deputies that the shooter had walked up to the victim in the road and shot him with a handgun.
There has been no arrest in the case, though Morris said investigators are working several leads right now.
Detective Sgt. J.R. Ricks is leading the investigation.
