Jerry O. Winfield

WAVERLY—Deacon Jerry O. Winfield, 81, died May 28, 2008, at Southside Regional Medical Center, Petersburg.

He was a WWII Veteran of the United States Army. He was the former President and Founder of the Oakdale Hunt Club in Waverly.

Deacon Winfield worked faithfully for more than 31 years at Newport News Ship Building and Dry Dock, retiring in 1991.

He was a member of Triumph in Victory Christian Church, Wakefield.

He leaves to cherish his memories, his devoted wife of 58 years, Josephine G. Winfield; three devoted children, Jessie K. Winfield, Herbert O. Winfield (Vanessa) and Denise Y. Harper; three devoted grandchildren, Karen M. Winfield, the Rev. Tyrone Jackson Jr. and Ian J. Winfield.

Funeral services was to be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at Wilborne Baptist Church, Waverly, with the Rev. Tyrone Jackson Jr. giving the eulogy and the Rev. Ernest B. Perry officiating.

Interment was to follow in the church cemetery.

The remains were to lie in state at the church on Saturday from 11:45 a.m. until the hour of service. Relatives and friends will assemble at the church at 12:30 p.m.

The family request that food please be omitted.
