Jack D. Mingin

PINEHURST, N.C.—Jack David Mingin, 58, died May 26, 2008, at First Health Moore Regional in Pinehurst.

Mr. Mingin was formerly of Smithfield, and graduated from Smithfield High School, where he still holds state records in football for points scored and yards rushing gained in single season.

He will be remembered for his sportsmanship and athletic abilities. Jack also graduated from Fork Union Military Academy and Chowan College.

Jack was a people person who never met a stranger. He was a food service manager for hospitals in New York and Pennsylvania.

Most recently, Jack was a millwright for Carolina Millwright Service of Fuquay-Varina and Vice-President of Sales at Mingin Enterprises of West End. Jack loved his family and would give you the shirt off his back.

He enjoyed traveling and fishing in his leisure time.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Norman R. Sr. and Elinore B. Mingin; and a brother, Norman ‘Pete’ R. Mingin.

Survivors include his wife, Cathy Mingin; daughter, Janet Gemmell (Tyler), and stepdaughter, Caroline, all of Wilmington, N.C.; brothers, William ‘Bill’ Mingin (Diane) of West End, N.C., Donald Mingin (Jenny) of Fuquay-Varina, N.C., Joseph Mingin (Rhonda) of Angier, N.C.; sisters, Sara Costello (Philip) of Lake Placid, Fla., Sandra Lane (Bobby) of Newport News,

Donna Howell (Gerald) of Smithfield, and Lilian Baity of North Wilkesboro, N.C.; grandchildren, Anthony, Marissa, Jordan, Dawson, Keona, Kassandra, Breanna and Jake; and eight nephews and seven nieces; his wife’s family, Pete Burden, Chris and Bill Goodfellow, Jean and Jim Hoopsick, Brenda and Tom Harrison and Nancy Nims.

A Life Celebration Service will be conducted at 2 p.m. today in Colonial Funeral Home with Sheriff Charles W. Phelps officiating. Burial will follow at St. Luke’s Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Red Cross, 4915 W. Mercury Blvd., Newport News, VA 23605.
