BLACKSTONE-Southampton Academy’s varsity soccer team defeated Fuqua School 2-1 on Wednesday to earn a spot in the Virginia Commonwealth Conference championship match against No. 1 seed Kenston Forest at 4.30 p.m. Friday.

The Raiders opened the scoring midway of the first half on a beautifully played ball over the top by Austin Foster to senior captain Will Hastings, who blew past the Falcon defense for the goal. The Falcons tied the game midway of the second half on a long throw-in, but the Raiders quickly answered on an Upper 90 amazing shot from Drey Chrysatomous from 30 yards out. Drey earned his 19th goal of the season, a school record.

Senior goalkeeper Andrew Edwards sealed the victory with several fingertip saves, and the defense played strong the entire game, said Coach Jamie Weist.
