BLACKSTONE-Southampton Academy fell 3-1 to Kenston Forest on Friday in the championship game of the Virginia Commonwealth Conference soccer tournament.

The Raiders opened up the scoring midway in the first half with a goal from eighth-grader Drey Chrysatomous off an assist by sophomore Brett Moore. The Kavaliers answered with only minutes left in the half to tie the game 1-1.

In the second half conditions worsened as a steady rain inundated the field. At the 20-minute mark, the Kavs took the lead for good on a ground ball that slipped through senior keeper Andrew Edwards’ hands. The Raiders rallied but could not capitalize on scoring opportunities, and Kenston Forest scored in the final seconds of the game for a 3-1 victory.

Following the game, several Raiders were recognized:

* Andrew Edwards – All-Conference Academic Team

* Will Hastings – Conference Co-Most Valuable Player

* Will Hastings – All-Conference First Team

* Drey Chrysatomous – All-Conference First Team

* Sarah McFarland – All-Conference Second Team

* Andy Cook – All-Conference Second Team

The Raiders finished the season third in the VCC and second in the VCC tourney.
