Robert A. Whitley

FRANKLIN—Robert Alvin Whitley, 69, died May 11, 2008, at Southampton Memorial Hospital.

Born in Isle of Wight, he was the son of the late Welton Roger Whitley and Louise Butler Whitley Copeland.

Mr. Whitley was a member and deacon of Hunterdale Christian Church, the Laymen’s Fellowship, the Men’s Sunday School Class and served as an usher. For 31 years he was employed by Ford Motor Co. in the trim line.

Survivors include his wife, Syble Whitehurst Whitley; stepmother, Iris Whitley of Suffolk; son and daughter-in-law, Ed and Kathy Allen; their sons, Robert L. Allen and Brandon L. Allen, all of Chesapeake; brothers and sisters-in-law, Welton Roger and Kay Whitley Jr. of Houston, Texas, John Ray and Judy Whitley of Windsor; sister and brother-in-law, Barbara Jean and Steve Barnes of Carrsville; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral will be conducted today at 2 p.m. in the R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home & Crematory by the Rev. Hal Whitley with burial in Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hunterdale Christian Church Organ Fund, 741 Hunterdale Road, Franklin, VA 23851.
