TARBORO, N.C.—Jackie L. James, 65, died May 8, 2008.
Mr. James served his country as a member of U.S. Army. He served in Vietnam from January 1967 through January 1968.
He was awarded the Army Commendation Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and the Purple Heart.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mae Lea Whitley James and Johnnie Russell James and a brother-in-law, the Rev. William Murray Bullock.
Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Betsy Harrison James; daughter, Robin James Pope and husband Jim of Capron; grandchildren, Betsy Grace Pope and Ashby James Pope; sister, Betty Burroughs of Bethel, N.C.; brother, Bobby James and wife Emily of Winston-Salem, N.C.; beloved dog, Nicole; nephews, William Murray Bullock Jr. and John M. Gray; nieces, Lou Ellen Bullock Lavender, Jennifer James Sugdon, Joni James Carlson and Janet James.
A funeral service was held Monday at Calvary Episcopal Church with the Rev. William Smyth officiating.
Burial followed in Greenwood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Edgecombe County Veterans Museum, 106 W. Church St., Tarboro.
Carlisle Funeral Home Inc. was in charge of arrangements.
