CARRSVILLE—The National Weather Service in Wakefield confirmed Thursday that a tornado from a second storm Monday afternoon touched down in Carrsville, damaging 11 houses and six agricultural buildings.

The storm followed a line just west of the Isle of Wight/Suffolk border and spawned a tornado at 4:45 p.m., shortly after the storm raised havoc on communities in nearby Suffolk.

According to the National Weather Service, which received information from Isle of Wight County emergency services manager Rusty Chase, the tornado in Carrsville was rated as an EF1, the weakest of the ratings. Still, storms at that level carry winds of between 86 to 110 mph.

The reports throughout the hectic evening Monday and into Tuesday morning indicated that as many as three tornadoes hit Suffolk.

Officials with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s National Weather Service took to the skies and ground Tuesday morning, trying to track the storm’s path.
