Farmers#8217; Market won#8217;t be a draw

To the Editor:

Moving the Farmers’ Market downtown is not going to increase foot traffic to downtown Franklin.

Winkie Howell, who I believe has been a vendor at the market since the onset, has stated that business is good at the present location on Armory Drive.

Where else is the foot traffic going to visit? Fred’s and Parker Drug are probably the only businesses downtown that have regular visitors. Both have been at their locations for years, and, hopefully, will remain for years.

Implying that the Farmers’ Market in Smithfield is a drawing factor seems ridiculous. Smithfield has done a tremendous job of keeping its downtown alive and well. It isn’t because of the Farmers’ Market.

Once again the City Council wants to spend money that doesn’t need to be spent. The vendors know best: If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.
