HAMPTON—Joe Henderson Jones, 87, died April 22, 2008.

Mr. Jones and his wife, Nancy, made their home in Hampton where they raised their family for the last 65 years.

He was originally from Phoenix, Va.

He was a retiree of Newport News Shipbuilding, where he built ships for 40 years as a joiner, sheet metal worker and supervisor in the X32 Department.

He was passionate about his family, work and shipyard friends. In retirement, he enjoyed garage sales, tinkering on anything and conversations with almost anybody. ‘Granddaddy’ will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Survivors include his wife, Nancy; three sons, Larry and

wife Linda of Newport News, Dale and wife Judy and Bruce of Hampton; four grandchildren, Traci Ratliff of Windsor, Brent Jones of Newport News, Jennifer Dresler and Jeff Jones of Yorktown; seven great-grandchildren, Casey and Hayley Ratliff, Trevor and Taylor Jones, Paityn Jones and Dylan and Breea Dresler; brother, Willie Preston Jones; and sister, Evlin O’Quinn.

A celebration of life service will be held at 12:30 p.m. today at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home.

Interment will follow at 1 p.m. in Parklawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends before the service from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Service arrangements are under the care of Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home, 2551 N. Armistead Ave., Hampton.
